Thoughtful reworkings of some classic Jazz numbers. Ken Mathieson's Classic Jazz Orchestra specialises in reworking numbers associated with the greats of Jazz and this new album is devoted to Louis Armstrong. Ken Mathieson's thoughtful and cleverly constructed new arrangements avoid simply re-treading old ground suggesting the influence of a contemporary figure such as Gil Evans. The daunting task of lead trumpet is taken by the very fine young American guest Duke Heitger and he is more than up to the job. Duke has become a regular visitor to these shores and his outstanding playing combined with his amiable personality has won him many admirers. As Just Jazz magazine commented "these are fine musiciansthis line-up is so strong that there is never and doubt ". This is a joyful album, packed with good music and swings like mad.
