The Fryer-Barnhart International All Star Jazz Band is based around two visiting American musicians, brass player Jim Fryer and pianist Jeff Barnhart. They have carved out a popular niche for themselves at UK festivals and in the clubs. They team up with some of the leading stalwarts of the local scene including ex-Monty Sunshine trumpeter Gordon Whitworth and the UKs leading exponent of vintage style drumming, Nick Ward. The Theatre By The Lake in Keswick is the spiritual home for the band, close to the spiritual home of Lake Records and this is the third album recorded live by the band during the Keswick Jazz Festival. Of their previous CD, Just Jazz said If the listener fails to enjoy what is contained in the grooves then I would despair for the future of jazz in this country. The music is excellent, the musicians are excellent and the production is excellent. Jazz Rreview proclaimed What stands out here is the powerful exuberance of the ensemble playing. Proof that there are still British mainstreamers who have no reason to be modest in American company. This is good-time jazz at its best, playing quite challenging material.
