Re-release of 'Destry Rides Again', the musical based on the classic film, starring Marlene Dietrich.

The musical was initially a success on Broadway in the late 1950's, but it was not until the 1980's that the show made it to the West End. This recording features an early starring role for Alfred Molina, who had risen to prominence for his role in the film Prick Up Your Ears, and has since starred in films as diverse as Spiderman, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Magnolia and Boogie Nights to name but a few. This year he has received Olivier and Tony nominations on both sides of the Atlantic, for his role as the artist Mark Rothko in the Donmar Warehouse production Red. Alongside Alfred at the time was Jill Gasgoine, a huge TV and stage star of the era, most notably the detective series The Gentle Touch. This was received as inspired casting of the time, and the show found considerable critical success. This recording still remains one of the few Harold Rome scores available on CD and contains the hit songs "Anyone Would Love You" and "I Say Hello".
