Leslie Nielsen stars as Lieutenant Frank Drebin in this trilogy of comedies based on the television series 'Police Squad'. In 'The Naked Gun' (1988), as he investigates business tycoon Vincent Ludwig (Ricardo Montalban), Drebin finds himself falling for Ludwig's secretary, Jane Spencer (Priscilla Presley). However, their budding romance is jeopardised when Drebin discovers that Ludwig is involved in a plot to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II (Jeannette Charles) during her upcoming visit to Los Angeles. Can Drebin and his colleagues at Police Squad save the Queen and catch those responsible? In 'The Naked Gun 2 1/2 - The Smell of Fear' (1991), Jane and Frank are no longer together and she is now involved with oil tycoon Quentin Hapsburg (Robert Goulet). When it becomes apparent that Hapsburg is involved in a dangerous plot to replace Dr. Albert Meinheimer (Richard Griffiths), an influential advocate for renewable energy, with a doppelganger who will support the fossil fuel industry instead, can Drebin expose Hapsburg's crimes and win back his lost love? Finally, in 'The Naked Gun 33 1/3' (1994), Drebin is now married to Jane and has retired from Police Squad but he is called back into action when his colleagues learn that bomber Rocco Dillon (Fred Ward) has been hired by terrorists to strike an unknown American target. Forced to go undercover to infiltrate Dillon's crew, Drebin discovers that the target is the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony but as he attempts to prevent the bombing, he risks his marriage in the process.
