Tender Mercies

A compassionate love story tracing the relationship between a burnt-out Country & Western star and the young widow he meets in a Texas motel. With his country singing career on the skids and along with life's disappointments, he hides at the bottom of a bottle. He has nowhere else to turn. But then an attractive widow and her young son arrive to help him pick up the shattered pieces. Through her love and inspiration he learns to give thanks for tender, if small, mercies. Tender Mercies put in an impressive performance at the 1983 Academy Awards, receiving 5 nominations and clinching two statuettes: Best Actor (Robert Duvall) and Best Screenplay (Horton Foote).
