In the late '70s, the Jamaican music industry was transformed by the introduction of the 12' single; a format that not only allowed for a longer playing time, but also provided a superior audio experience, with a greater dynamic range. Of those Kingston-based producers who had sufficient funds to regularly release records on the format, none were more prolific than Joe Gibbs, whose output between 1978 and 1984 included a raft of 'disco-mix' singles. While many of these discs coupled vocal versions with DJ cuts on the same rhythm, a number featured dub versions of the 'top-side', and it is the very best of these tracks that feature on this celebration of top-quality extended dub mixes from the Joe Gibbs studio.
