日本を代表するサックス・プレイヤー、渡辺貞夫が自身のルーツであるビバップをテーマに挑んだ5年ぶりのジャズ・アルバム。ホワイトハウスで共演した気鋭のドラマー、ブライアン・ブレイドを中心に旧知のピアニスト、サイラス・チェスナットらとビバップ・スピリッツ溢れる自身のオリジナル曲を中心にニューヨークでレコーディング。ドラムとサックスのデュエットで始まる「ルック・アヘッド」ではブライアン・ブレイドの歌うようなドラミングに呼応するようなアルト・サックスの熱い演奏を披露するほか、ブラジルのシンガー、モニカ・サルマーゾへ捧げた「モニカ」を優し音色で奏で、東北への想いとともに「花を咲く」をサックスのアカペラでアルバムの最後に演奏するなど多様な表現によってジャズを伝える。 (C)RS
