With "Groove of ESSR II", Funk Embassy Recs once again opens the doors to a largely hidden world - the underground musical scene of the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic (ESSR). But the title carries a subtle irony: for Estonia, the ESSR was anything but a republic in the true sense of the word. Under Soviet occupation, music was not only a means of entertainment, but often also an act of resistance, escape and survival.
