The Soviet T-62 main battle tank is the world's first mass-produced tank with a smoothbore gun, and the mass of a medium tank with a high level of armour. The tank, which was a development of the T-55 model, received the U-5TS gun of 115 millimetres calibre. More than 20,000 units were produced in the USSR between 1962 and 1975.
