PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
1/48 Polikarpov I - 16. Plastic model kit of a Soviet fighter aircraft from the 1930s with 225 pieces. Decals for Spain, China and Soviet Union are included. The I-16 Type 5 was the second series modification of the N.N. Polikarpow designed fighter plane. A more powerful M-25 engine was built into a modified fairing with improved aerodynamics, which increased the speed to 450 km/h and made the I-16 the fastest production aircraft of its time. During mass production in the years 1935-1938, more than 2200 aircraft were built. Taking into account the combat and operational experience, the I-16 Type 5 has been improved during production by introducing reinforced wings, larger wheels and an oil cooler. Due to problems with the closed cockpit, an open cockpit has been introduced. The I-16 Type 5 was widely used in the Spanish Civil War of 1936-39, the Japanese-Chinese War of 1937-45, in the conflict on Lake Chasan in 1938, the Conflict on Chalchin-Gol in 1939, and the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-40. The I-16 Type 5 participated mainly as a light attack aircraft in World War II until 1943, for which the armament was increased with four to six unguided 82 mm rocket launchers.
