First Light

New Yorker antifolk songwriter TURNER CODY presents an excellent songreigen of folk, jazz and blues feat. JON NATCHEZ (BEIRUT). Turner Cody belongs to Adam Green and David and Neman from Herman Dune one of the pioneers of the New York anti-folk scene. 'First Light' is the musician's second regular long player after 60 seasons. The rough recordings are grounded in the best American music tradition, with the stylistic spectrum from urban folk and jazz to captivating, soulful ballads to blues-oriented boogie. Accompanied by an extremely loose and compact electric band on guitars, bass, drums and winds, Turner Cody's accurate lyrics, which are the focus of the recordings. His lyrics can be both touchingly direct, as in the eponymous title song or in the relaxed 'Lowlands', as well as distant narrative as with 'CampLadies' town or 'Irene'. In any case, however, his songs always show the highest level of competence for perfect songwriting and refined arrangements.
