Leider hat die Gattung des Oboenquartetts in der Publikumsgunst nie den Stellenwert etwa des Klarinettenquintetts erlangt. Dabei ist es eine nicht weniger reizvolle Kombination, und gerade im 18. Jahrhundert gab es eine Fülle an Quartetten mit Oboe, von denen jedoch lediglich Mozarts virtuoses Oboenquartett Bekanntheit erlangte. Die Oboistin Emma Black und ihre Mitstreiterinnen stellen dem berühmten Werk zwei Stücke von Zeitgenossen Mozarts zur Seite, die nicht zuletzt dank der rundum überzeugenden Umsetzung neugierig auf weitere Kompositionen in dieser Besetzung machen.
