EN In 2013, Finnish melancholic dark rock/metal masters AMORPHIS gave birth to their eleventh mind-child named “Circle” that instantly hit #1 in Finland’s album charts. The total of 9 tracks and 2 bonus tracks that are contained on “Circle” once more prove the musicians’ ability to intertwine new and established ingredients. “To put it in a few words, it’s compact, brilliant, fresh and still has all the elements you expect from AMORPHIS”, as guitarist Esa Holopainen points out. Lyricist Pekka Kainulainen, who has also worked for the band on previous albums, tells the story of an unfortunate man, who is invited to a circle and receives strength from the old Finnish gods. As the plot is set completely between dusk and dawn, “Circle” gains a dark yet yearning atmosphere. Produced by Swedish all-rounder Peter Tägtgren (HYPOCRISY, PAIN), AMORPHIS went to the Finnish countryside at Petrax Studio to work on “Circle”. The cover artwork was done by British artist Tom Bates who seems to share a common love for Alphonse Mucha with Esa Holopainen. Founded 1990 in Helsinki, AMORPHIS have become a globally successful act with 6 number 1 albums in their home country Finland and countless top 10 positions all over the world. DE 2013 brachten die finnischen melancholischen Dark-Rock/Metal-Meister AMORPHIS ihr elftes Album namens „Circle“ auf den Markt, das sofort auf Platz 1 der finnischen Album-Charts landete. Die insgesamt 9 Songs und 2 Bonustracks, die auf „Circle“ enthalten sind, beweisen einmal mehr die künstlerische Fähigkeit der Musiker, Neues und Bewährtes miteinander zu verbinden. „Um es in wenigen Worten auszudrücken, es ist kompakt, brillant, frisch und hat dennoch alle Elemente, die man von AMORPHIS erwartet“, erklärt Gitarrist Esa Holopainen. Texter Pekka Kainulainen, der auch schon auf früheren Alben für die Band gearbeitet hat, erzählt die Geschichte eines unglücklichen Mannes, der in einen Zirkel eingeladen wird und Kraft von den alten finnischen Göttern bekommt. Da die Handlung vollständig zwischen Abend- und Morgendämmerung spielt, gewinnt „Circle“ eine düstere und sehnsüchtige Atmosphäre. Nachdem der schwedische Allrounder Peter Tägtgren (HYPOCRISY, PAIN) das Album produziert hatte, zogen AMORPHIS auf das finnische Land in die Petrax Studios, um weiter an „Circle“ zu arbeiten. Das Cover-Artwork stammt vom britischen Künstler Tom Bates, der anscheinend eine gemeinsame Liebe zu Alphonse Mucha mit Esa Holopainen teilt. AMORPHIS wurden 1990 in Helsinki gegründet und haben sich mit 6 Nummer-1-Alben in ihrem Heimatland Finnland und unzähligen Top-10-Positionen auf der ganzen Welt zu einem der weltweit erfolgreichen Metal-Acts entwickelt.
