Im Jahr 2014 veröffentlichten Röyksopp ihr angekündigtes letztes Album The Inevitable End. Svein Berge und Torbjørn Brundtland versprachen zwar, weiterhin gemeinsam Musik zu machen, kündigten aber an, dass dies "der Abschied vom traditionellen Albumformat" sei. Seitdem war das norwegische Elektronik-Duo fleißig, vertonte eine Comedy-Theater-Show, die auf dem Werk von Franz Kafka basiert, trug zu Rick Rubins Star Wars Headspace-Compilation bei und kramte für die Lost Tapes-Reissue-Serie in ihren Archiven.

Im Jahr 2022 kehren sie mit ihrem bisher größten Projekt zurück. Profound Mysteries ist ein erweitertes kreatives Universum und ein erstaunliches konzeptionelles Projekt, das am 29. April erscheint.
