Martha Beck is a grumpy and overweight woman who reluctantly unwinds her job as a nurse and the care of her already slightly senile mother and girlfriend Daisy every day. When Daisy Martha enrolls at a partnership agency, the Spaniard Raymond Fernandez reports and it develops first a pen pal, then a relationship. When Fernandez cancels them, Martha ensures that they come back together by means of suicide threat. However, she learns that Raymond is a marriage swindler and fraudster, but by Martha acting as his sister in the future, the couple's livelihood can be further ensured, especially because Martha turns out to be tricky to blow up upcoming weddings even before the event. The condition of their relationship is that Ray or Charles, as he now calls himself, never sleeps with one of the women. However, when the pregnant Myrtle insists on execution with Ray, Martha poisons her victim. If necessary, killing her victim will soon become habituation for the couple from then on, but the mistrust that Ray could cheat her drives Martha further around.
The film is based on the case of the so-called Lonely Hearts killlers Ray Fernandez and Martha Beck, who were executed in 1951 for proven murder of at least three people source Wikipedia
