Bananas. Zweitausendeins Edition Film 331. USA 1971. Der ungeschickte Produkttester Fielding Mellish verliebt sich Hals über Kopf in die rebellische Studentin Nancy. Um ihr zu imponieren, nimmt er an politischen Demonstrationen teil und reist in die Republik San Marcos, wo er erst von einheimischen Rebellen entführt und dann unfreiwillig zu ihrem Anführer gekürt wird. Nach dem Sturz der Regierung wird Mellish sogar Präsident und kehrt als Staatsoberhaupt mit rotem Fidel-Castro-Bart in die USA zurück. Woody Allens "Bananas" ist wunderbar anarchisch und ungemein komisch. Es gibt Live-Reportagen über das alljährliche Diktatorenattentat oder es wird ein Box-Sex-Kampf aus dem Ehebett der Mellishs übertragen – mit anschließenden Interviews der Besiegten und des Siegers: Sie hätte nie gedacht, dass es so schnell gehen würde; er hat gut trainiert und war sich seiner Sache sicher.
