In einem spanischen Dorf bereitet sich María José (Macarena Gómez) darauf vor, sich selbst umzubringen, da sie den Freitod ihres Sohnes nicht überwinden kann, in den die Dorfgemeinschaft ihn einst getrieben hat. Bevor sie ihren Plan endgültig umsetzen kann, trifft sie jedoch auf ein seltsames kleines Mädchen, das offenbar mit einer apokalyptischen Legende in Verbindung steht. Zusammen mit ihr und ihren übernatürlichen Kräften stellt sich María der korrupten Gemeinde und übt grausame Rache für den Selbstmord ihres Sohnes.
