Deutschland 1944: Die Offensive der alliierten Streitkräfte am Fuße des Hürtgenwaldes ins Stocken geraten. Dort befindet sich ein 400 Meter hoher stark bewaldeter Hügel mit einer Festungsanlage. General Weaver (William Baldwin) schickt ein Himmelfahrtskommando aus Rangern, die sich bereits in der Normandie bewährt haben, um das Unmögliche möglich zu machen und den „Burgberg“ zu erobern.
