After World War II, trumpeter and music theorist Carlo Bohländer founded the Domicile du Jazz in bombed Frankfurt. Under initiates henceforth called the cellar. Here was really jazzed. During the day, the cellar was a rehearsal room, in the evening it turned into a never-ending jam session. The atmosphere was stunning. There was no gagen, but plenty of schnapps.

At the centre of the action was Carlo, who infected everyone with his genius, wit and enthusiasm. Soon, famous jazz greats from Germany and overseas gave themselves the jack in their hands. Including Albert Mangelsdorff, Bill Ramsey, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and even Louis Armstrong. The jazz cellar and Carlo built bridges between the nations and made it possible for the world to come together again in Frankfurt at least for a jam session long.

'Carlo, Keep Swingin' is the captivating portrait of Carlo Bohländer who has created nothing less than the germ cell for jazz in Germany with the Frankfurt jazz cellar. An anthem to the music of freedom following the painful experience of National Socialism.
