EDITORIAL REVIEWS
Here is a musical walking-tour of the city on the Danube, in opulence unlike anything so far seen with a visit to a typical wine tavern and an open landau trip included. It will conjure up memories in sound for all who have ever visited this beautiful city, wandered along the Ring and Krntner Strae, passed the Hofburg and the Staatsoper, perhaps made an excursion to Schloss Schnbrunn, and ended the day afterwards enjoying the atmosphere of a wine tavern in Grinzing. You will be accompanied by melodies that remain for ever associated with Vienna. The Radetzky March and the Schne blaue Donau played by the Vienna Philharmonic under Herbert von Karajan, belong here just as do the Fiakerlied (Landau song) with Paul Hrbiger, Die Reblaus (Vine fretter) with Hans Moser and not to forget Robert Stolz, the last of the great composers of Viennese waltzes that were heard the world over. Of course Peter Alexander is here, Erich Kunz of the Staatsoper, Peter Minich of the Volksoper, and Renate Holm of both; the Vienna Boys Choir, the Original Hoch- und Deutschmeister (traditional Viennese Regimental band), Anton Karas with his zither, playing the well-known film music from The Third Man, and other originals such as Hermann Leopoldi, Heinz Conrads, Fritz Jellinek and Luzzi Baierl. In addition there are guests who were frequently and eagerly heard in Vienna such as Ingeborg Hallstein, Rudolf Schock, Fritz Wunderlich, Hermann Prey and many, many others. Vienna and music simply belong together, and the melodies on these 10CDs are the best evidence of that.
