Es könnte der Plan zum perfekten Verbrechen sein: Der abgebrannte Autoverkäufer Jerry Lundsgaard (William H.Macy) engagiert zwei Galgenvögel, die seine Ehefrau entführen und vom ebenso reichen Schwiegervater ein Lösegeld erpressen sollen.
