"Time of the Gypsies" erzählt, wie aus dem Zigeunerjungen Perhan ein Verbrecher wird, weil er Geld verdienen muss, um das Mädchen, das er liebt, heiraten zu können. Perhan wird Mitglied einer Bande, die von Diebstahl, Prostitution und Hehlerei lebt. Er erlernt die Kunst des Stehlens und Bettelns, doch bald muss er erkennen, d er selbst der Bestohlene und Betrogene ist.
