Obwohl Johann Christian Bach und der Gamben-Virtuose Carl Friedrich Abel in London bis zur Heirat des Ersteren eine Art Junggesellen-WG führten, erschien das uvre J.C. Bachs für die Gambe erstaunlich schmal. Durch einen Manuskriptfund wurde jedoch für die Quartette Op.8 bestätigt, was Thomas Fritzsch und andere bereits vermutet hatten, dass nämlich die als Taille bezeichnete Bratschen-Stimme in der Erstfassung der Quartette beim Musizieren im Kreis der Komponisten von Abel auf der Gambe ausgeführt wurde. Zusammen mit weiteren exzellenten Musikern führt uns Fritzsch hier vor, wie die reizvollen Quartette in ihrer Urfassung geklungen haben.
