Elena and her son "Potato", who fight for survival in the turbulent years of perestroica in the USSR, flee daily to the fantasy world of the films telling of the great American dream. But soon the films as a safe place are no longer enough and the two decide to find a way to emigrate to America. And with success: It doesn't take long for Potato's mother to get to know a man from the USA and eventually marries too. Mother and son leave their home, ready for their very own American dream. Potato's sexual tendency to men who have developed since his childhood is increasing. However, the "adult" films from the video thek only silence his desire briefly and he begins to gather first experiences with men to live out his sexuality. Director Wes Hurley's film is closely inspired by his childhood and one of those stories that prove that real life is often much more eventful than fiction.

Die "Erwachsenen"-Filme aus der Videothek stillen sein Verlangen aber nur kurz und er beginnt erste Erfahrungen mit Männern zu sammeln, um seine Sexualität auszuleben. Regisseurs Wes Hurleys Film ist eng an seine Kindheit angelehnt und eine jener Geschichten, die beweisen, dass das wirkliche Leben oft viel ereignisreicher ist als die Fiktion.
