Once again, Deep Purple has teamed up with Bob Ezrin. Together, they have made an album that draws on the band's classic sound without falling into nostalgia. Musically, 'SPLAT!' is one of the hardest and heaviest Deep Purple albums in many years - recorded in true hard rock tradition, with the band playing together in the studio. At the center of the record is a conceptual idea from Ian Gillan: 'SPLAT!' deals with the end of humanity, or perhaps Deep Purple, not in any crude apocalyptic sense but as a metamorphosis beyond physical existence.
