Jan Albert van Eyken (1823-1868) studierte von 1845 bis 1846 am Leipziger Konservatorium und wurde im April 1854 Organist an der Reformierten Kirche in Elberfeld. Zu seinen vielen Bewunderern gehörte u.a. kein Geringer als Robert Schumann. In Oberbarmen unweit von Van Eykens späterer Wirkungsstätte Elberfeld hatte die Orgelbaufirma Richard Ibach ihren Sitz, die vier Jahre vor van Eykens Tod die prächtige Orgel für Bergen op Zoom erschuf: ein großes frühromantisches Instrument, auf welchem Ute Gremmel-Geuchen u.a. die drei großen Orgelsonaten bestens zur Geltung bringt.



Jan Albert van Eyken (1823-1868) studied at the Leipzig Conservatory from 1845 to 1846 and became organist at the Reformed Church in Elberfeld in April 1854. Among his many admirers was none other than Robert Schumann. In Oberbarmen, not far from Van Eyken's later place of work in Elberfeld, the organ-building firm of Richard Ibach had its headquarters. Four years before Van Eyken's death, Ibach built the magnificent organ for Bergen op Zoom: a large early Romantic instrument on which Ute Gremmel-Geuchen brings out the best in the three great organ sonatas, among others.
