Das 1743 als Op.9 erschienene Quatrième Livre de Sonates von Jean-Marie Leclair (1697-1764) gilt als Gipfel der barocken französischen Violinkunst. Leclair treibt hier die Virtuosität bis ins Extrem, und entsprechend werden diese Sonaten auch nur selten eingespielt. Hélène Schmitt, wie Leclair eine Ausnahmegeigerin, beschäftigt sich seit Jahren intensiv mit dessen Werk. Auf dieser CD zeigt sie nun nicht nur die Virtuosität der Stücke, sondern auch deren erstaunliche Vielfalt. Dabei wird sie von einer hochkarätigen Continuogruppe in verschiedenen Besetzungen unterstützt.
