With their new album "The Butcher's Share", the first in five long years, Daniel Kahn and his band The Painted Bird are back to their reputation as "Yiddish Borderland Bandistas". A powerful and complex work: the protagonists work in it without fear to be held hopelessly vorgestrig, the fields of the great political and personal issues of our time. Kahn's songs are on the left, revolutionary, demanding, no light fare. They are angry songs about the apocalypse of our time, basically declarations of war to the present day. Born in Detroit and living in Berlin since 2005, Daniel Kahn and his band The Painted Bird: these are his old buddies Hampus on drums, Michael on bass and these new companions: Christian Dawid and Dan Blacksberg: their clarinets, saxophones and trombones sound like a drunken sailor's band that uninvitedly hijacks a Jewish wedding.
