17th Century Italy: Behind the walls of the Monastery of Pescia, novice Benedetta Carlini (Virginie Efira) excites the heads of the Catholic Church as the wounds of Christ appear on her body. Despite initial doubts about the authenticity of the stigmata, Benedetta rises to the abbess as the "chosen one of God".
