Mit Jackie Brown liefert Quentin Tarantino eine stilvolle Hommage an die Blaxploitation-Ära der 1970er - elegant, cool und mit gewohnt pointierten Dialogen. Die titelgebende Stewardess (Pam Grier) verdient sich heimlich etwas dazu, indem sie Geld für den Waffenschieber Ordell Robbie (Samuel L. Jackson) über die Grenze schmuggelt. Als sie von der Polizei geschnappt wird, gerät sie zwischen die Fronten: Entweder sie packt aus oder sie landet im Gefängnis. Doch Jackie plant ein doppeltes Spiel, bei dem sie Polizei und Gangster gleichermaßen austricksen will.

Tarantino versammelt ein herausragendes Ensemble: Neben Grier spielen u.a. Robert De Niro, Bridget Fonda, Robert Forster und Michael Keaton. Die Vorlage lieferte Elmore Leonards Roman Rum Punch, bekannt auch durch „Out of Sight“ und „Schnappt Shorty“.
