Mit weiß geschminktem Gesicht und schrillen Kostümen wurde der Countertenor Klaus Nomi zur Ilkone des New Yorker Underground, u. a. heiß verehrt von David Bowie. In den Siebzigern gehörte Nomi zur New Yorker Szene, wirkte in Filmen mit, trat in Clubs auf, veröffentlichte zahlreiche Platten. 1983 starb er an Aids.
