Rule of Thumb is het beste bewijs van Steve Hicks' reputatie als een uitstekend `fingerstyle' gitarist, met zijn duizelingwekkende uitvoeringen van ragtime, blues- en jazzstandards. Hij deelt met ons repertoire uit de jaren '20 - '40 van de vorige eeuw, van o.a. vaudeville- en ragtimepianisten als Felix Arndt en George Botsford. `Three Quarter Blues' van George Gershwin zal dan weer minder bekend zijn. Het is bijna een anthologie van ragtime!
