Pavel Gililov gehört zu den herausragenden ukrainischen Pianisten seiner Generation. Nach dem Abschluss am Leningrader Konservatorium (mit Auszeichnung) emigrierte er 1978 in den Westen, wo er erfolgreich seine Konzert- und Lehrtätigkeit u.a. an der Hochschule Köln und am Mozarteum Salzburg fortsetzte. Die 1982 entstandene Aufnahme der Chopin-Balladen unterstreicht seinen hervorragenden Ruf.
