Monsieur Hulot ist Werbefachmann in der Autobranche. Sein neuester Clou, ein hypermodern ausgestattetes Wohnmobil, soll auf der Automobilmesse in Amsterdam ausgestellt werden. Zusammen mit einer jungen Werbedame in einem kleinen gelben Sportwagen macht er sich auf den Weg. Doch gestaltet sich die Reise schwieriger, als gedacht: Pannen, Staus und andere Missgeschicke erschweren die Fahrt. Als sie endlich in Amsterdam ankommen, ist die Messe längst vorbei.
