Chet Baker was known for his passionate trumpet play. As a trumpeter in the pianoless quartet of Gerry Mulligan, he gained first notoriety and is often referred to as the lead figure of Cool Jazz due to this period. His recordings, however, prove his great adaptability in many stylistic areas of jazz. Baker also became a superstar thanks to his appearance and likeness to James Dean, leaving jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and Clifford Brown behind in surveys. On Chet Baker knew the Jazz you can find some of his best works. The four pieces The Nearness Of You, When Your Lover Has Gone, I´m Beginning To See The Light, as well as Tea For Two are recordings with the Gerry Mulligan Quartet.
