Antisweet

Sycamore is a protean sound cluster. A beast letting out some ethereal melodies despite its openly sludge bases. Sycamore is rooted in chaos, on a soil where no rules can really apply, where neither dynamics nor codes have yet any authority. Like Antisweet, his fourth album, which will be released on November 24 by Source Atone Records, his universe is airy, dirty and rocky but yet clinical and hypnotic. Sycamore probably bears its name in reference to this tree which, symbolically, wants to be a door to a beyond, another reality. An additional dimension that would be made up of creeping, oppressive but above all, and almost paradoxically, liberating sounds. Polishing its musical roughness since 2015, the trio made up of members of the Grind'n'Roll combo Anorak and stoner band Taman Shud claims total freedom. A vagrant spirit that makes him flirt as much with noise influences as purely metal. After Phantom Wax (2016), Nectar in 2018 and Bloodstone two years later, the trio are back with a fourth album: Antisweet. As always, Sycamore works here to envy. This record is therefore both the continuity of everything the trio has accomplished so far while being a form of evolution. Better: Antisweet is even a reaction to the rest of the band's discography. Some will find it a 90's spirit and grunge roots, others will notice its post-metal atmospheres and the subtlety of its extreme passages. But as volatile as it may be, Antisweet is perfectly thought out and mastered by its creators. Which is almost irony when we know that this record was born of anger, frustrations and those chaotic visions that the world around us offers us.
