MADEMOISELLE MARSEILLE

Mademoiselle Marseille, the first, and therefore perhaps the most personal, of Moussu T e lei Jovents' albums. Moussu T e lei Jovents formed around the personality of Moussu T, alias Tatou. Born in 1959, an author, composer and performer from Marseille, his career merges with that of Massilia Sound System, of which he is the founder, but also more generally with the cultural renewal in Marseille led by this group at the end of the eighties. Moussu T has the desire, then, to imagine a repertoire at the crossroads of America and Africa, of the Orient and the Caribbean and coming to flow into the local tradition to form a port folklore, reflection of a multicultural society. Repertoire related, not only to the mixing of peoples and the values of conviviality and tolerance carried by Occitan culture, but also to this universe of port and salt water, to this landscape of cranes and creeks, that of course of Marseille but also of La Ciotat, its city, where the beaches of the carefree run alongside the great shadow of closed shipyards, where the sweetness of the landscape blends with the nostalgia of the industrial era, when the hard work of the steelworkers generated a strong sense of be.
