Die Vorliebe des preisgekrönten kanadischen Komponisten Christopher Tyler Nickel für fantasievolle Instrumentenkombinationen spiegelt sich auch in seiner neuesten Veröffentlichung „Music for Woodwind Choirs“ wider. Die vier Sätze der Suite für zwei Oboen und zwei Englischhörner verweisen auf Teile der christlichen Liturgie – Kyrie, Dies Irae, Lacrimosa, Gloria – und stellen jeweils eine abstrakte Meditation über das geistliche Vorbild dar. Nickels Symphony for Flute Choir ist ein groß angelegtes viersätziges Werk für insgesamt sieben Flöten – von der Piccolo- bis zur Bassflöte.
