The recording of these great motets is in line with Antiphona Ensemble’s desire to promote the musical heritage of Occitanie Region. What a privilege for our musicians to be given the opportunity, three centuries later, to revive those extraordinary works as a precious illustration of the genius of three great Languedocien composers (Joseph Valette de Montigny, Beranrd-Aymable Dupuy and Jean Malet). For a modern listener, these scores are a testimony to the excellence of the choir schools, Music Academies and Languedoc States Sessions throughout the 18th century. These institutions fostered an intense creative activity which led to the publication of an abundant repertoire constantly enriched by new musical treasures.
