DESCRIPTION

Deary is a British dream pop/shoegaze band that mixes ethereal soundscapes with indie pop sensitivity. deary has released two EPs and has built up a growing audience through her immersive concerts. Deary's style resonates with fans of bands such as Cocteau Twins, Beach House, Alvvays and Slowdive, sometimes adding noisy shoegaze touches to his productions, which are reminiscent of the saturated flights of My Bloody Valentine. The London duo, turned trio, has just signed with the label Bella Union and released their debut album, Birding. Birds are attractive and fascinating creatures. Freed from earthly concepts, they hover in the skies, interacting only briefly with those of us who observe them from below. It is almost as if they inhabit a parallel world, where the turbulence of everyday life on Earth is completely non-existent. When deary, the London dreampop trio consisting of Ben Easton, Dottie Cockram and Harry Catchpole, titled their debut album Birding, it was not only to pay tribute to our feathered friends, but also to refer to the sense of expansion, wonder and abandonment that their music evokes. They chose this title to draw attention to the direct impact humans have on the world around them, whether it is nature or themselves. Through 11 tracks ranging from deep ocean-like shoegaze riffs to light, ethereal touches of indie, Birding is the sound of a band that has definitely found its way. "I was really passionate about reading books about birds and all those historical and poetic stories that concern them," says singer and guitarist Dottie. "We find these beautiful images of birds that represent hope, but they are also animals. Some eat their own young. Others, such as vultures and crows, are for some people a sign of death. They represent all these different elements, which I think sum up the album well. » "The album is about human consequences," says Ben, the band's guitarist. The consequences for each other, on our own mind, on mental health, on nature. One idea that seemed quite tangible to us is that humans have the greatest consequences on innocent, vulnerable and sensitive beings, such as birds, for example. This goes hand in hand with the vulnerability of our inner self, or the child within us, which corresponds to the album cover of the album: a child trying to steal. It is very ethereal, but it also has a lot of sad nuances. » deary (all lowercase please) came into being during the COVID-related lockdown, when Ben left the South East London scene he was part of and challenged himself to write more emotional music
