François Pignon (Gad Elmaleh) and his best friend Richard ($Dany Boon}) are two simple valets employed by a posh Paris hotel. Blissfully unaware of the paparazzi as they capture photograph upon photograph of powerful business tycoon Pierre Levasseur (Daniel Auteuil) leaving the hotel with his stunning mistress Elena (Alice Taglioni), innocent passerby François wanders haphazardly into the frame only to find his face plastered all over the paper the following day. Recognizing that the valet in the photograph may be Levasseur's only hope of avoiding a nasty divorce from his wife Christine (Kristin Scott Thomas), Pierre's quick-thinking lawyer Maitre Fox (Richard Berry) schemes to pay François a tidy sum if he will agree to live with Pierre's mistress in order to mislead the tabloids. Having just had his marriage proposal to childhood sweetheart Emilie (Virginie Ledoyen), François eagerly accepts the prosperous proposal. The only problem now is convincing beautiful supermodel Elena to move into the low-earning wageworker's shoddy, less-than-modest apartment until the smoke blows over and the tabloids are thrown off the tracks.
