Heutzutage hat man Marilyn Monroe vor allem als archetypisches Sexsymbol in Erinnerung, dabei war die Filmikone auch eine glänzende Sängerin. Insofern ist es nur folgerichtig, dass die Femme fatale gerade mit den Musikfilm-Komödien "Blondinen bevorzugt" (1953), "Wie angelt man sich einen Millionär?" (1953) oder "Das verflixte 7. Jahr" (1955) in Hollywood zum Superstar aufstieg. Einen ihrer berühmtesten Songs gab die kurvige Blondine 1959 in Billy Wilders Klassiker "Manche mögen s heiß" als Mitglied einer Damenkapelle zum Besten: "I Wanna Be Loved By You". Es handelt sich um ein Stück aus dem Jahr 1928, das von Herbert Stothart und Harry Ruby komponiert wurde; Bert Kalmar verfasste den Text. Ursprünglich wurde "I Wanna Be Loved By You" für das Musical "Good Boy" geschrieben und zunächst von Helen Kane gesungen. Schon bald erreichte das Lied große Popularität und entwickelte sich über die Jahrzehnte hinweg zum Evergreen, nicht zuletzt durch Versionen von Frank Sinatra, Rose Murphy, Verka Serduchka und Sinéad O Connor. Bei der Wahl "Songs of the Century" wurde das Stück auf Platz 128 gewählt.
