The present version of Beethoven’s choral symphony is a first-release and was broadcasted in Copenhagen during a live concert conducted by Rafael Kubelik in February 1959. It’s his fastest version and maybe his best Ninth Symphony and in any case the most convincing one. It is characterized by a rather lively tempo, a second movement with thundering timpani and a raging beginning of the fourth movement.
