Jason Van Gulick is one of the most inventive drummers on the contemporary music scene. For more than a decade, he has used his education as an architect to explode the foundations of drumming. Maintaining a distance from all aesthetic, disciplinary or formal limitations, he has developed his artistic approach in the confrontation between the acoustic character of his chosen instrument and architectural resonant spaces. He has performed with Carla Bozulich / Evangelista, for many tour and share stage with Stephen O'Malley (Sunn O)))), Chris Corsano, N.U. Unruh (Einsturzende Neubauten), LE QUAN Ninh, . Apart from that, he is also known for his live band work with for instance Wolvennest, SUM OF R, or his joint performances with for instance CHVE. CONCRETE is the latest result in the exploration of what sounds drums and percussion can produce. Van Gulick has masterfully experimented and crafted a sound that is surprisingly engaging. A dark ambient and drone take on playing the drums. This is an amazing album that will make your jaw drop. This has become an almost unbelievable effort.
