The Frisian is a breed of saddle and draft horse from Friesland, province of the Netherlands . hence its name! It always wears a black dress, and is for this reason nicknamed 'the black pearl'. This very old prestige horse has a turbulent history: alternately a war mount then a trotting race horse, it is threatened of disappearing at the end of the 19th century because it was neglected for the heavy draft horse. Now protected, the Frisian is very appreciated for shows and movies because of its great elegance, its dress and its raised head wearing. The Frison measures between 1.55 m to 1.65 m at the withers, and can sometimes even reach 1.75 m.
