Musique Paysanne de l'Ancien Pays de Hârläu

Near Harlau, a town in Romanian Moldavia, live the three traditional musicians who took part in this project: Neculai Florea, Nicolae Amarandei and Valentin Balasoiu. The recordings are based around the cobza, a plucked string instrument, and the rural repertoire. Cobza, violin and shepherd's flute accompany dance tunes (hore, sarbe, batute.) and songs that are often satirical or drawn from bardic folk tradition. This album carries us back to the golden age of Romanian peasant music.
