Am 2. Mai 1961 flog die Pilatus PC-6A Turbo Porter zum ersten Mal mit einem Turbomeca Astazou Motor mit 520 PS. Sie wurde durch den Einbau eines neuen Turbowellenmotors, des 550 PS starken Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A, weiter verbessert, woraus die Version PC-6B entstand. Nach fast 600 Flugzeugen, die in sechs Jahrzehnten gebaut wurden, stellte Pilatus 2019 die Produktion ein und bewies damit einmal mehr, dass eine Maschine mit einer einfachen, robusten Konstruktion viele ihrer anspruchsvolleren und fortschrittlicheren Pendants überleben kann.
