Live in Europe

Procol Harum emerged from the ashes of a Southend R&B band the Paramounts. In 1966, Gary Brooker met lyricist Keith Reid and began writing songs that would lead to the formation of Procol Harum. Mixing classical with rock influences they scored a massive hit single with ‘Whiter Shade of Pale’. Developing an interest in classical music Procol Harum started writing and recording multi-movement suites that would influence the emergent late ‘sixties progressive groups that followed in their wake. By their fourth album ‘Home’, their sound had evolved a harder rock edge but with the departure of guitarist Robin Trower, Gary Brooker began to guide the band’s musical direction. In 1971, Procol Harum toured Europe and performed live in the studio for both German and French radio. The recordings on this album are from sessions recorded for Radio Bremen and FIP, part of the Radio France group in Paris. The band perform songs from their début album as well as ‘Home’, ‘A Salty Dog’ and their most recent album ‘Broken Barricades’. Recorded live but without an audience these recordings have the energy of a live performance with the fidelity of a professional recording studio. TRACKLISTING 1. Shine On Brightly 2.
