Moody Blue von 1977 ist das letzte Album, das zu Elvis' Lebzeiten erschienen ist. Aufgenommen wurde das Album zwischen Februar 1976 und April 1977. Als besonderen Werbegag presst RCA die ersten 250.000 Kopien auf blauem Vinyl. Als Elvis am 16. August verstirbt, zieht die Nachfrage massiv an und RCA stellt die Tagesproduktion des Presswerks in Indianapolis vollständig auf Moody Blue um. In den US Charts kletterte das Album auf Rang 3. Im Dezember 1977 honoriert die RIAA den Absatz mit einer Goldenen Schallplatte, 1992 folgt Doppel-Platin. Auch außerhalb der USA wird Moody Blue nun vielerorts in der Top 10 notiert, weltweit gehen acht Millionen Kopien über die Ladentheken.

40 Jahre später wird MOODY BLUE wieder aufgelegt und als 40th Anniversary Edition erneut in blauem Vinyl gepresst !
