Funk, Fusion, Fiddle, FUN A quartet hailing from Northwest Indiana. Fresh Hops' sound has evolved at the same rapid pace as their fan base has grown. Through their seven years as a band, these are guys who have always strived for being a well-oiled roadshow. Putting elastic, unpretentious fun at the core each time they take the stage, you get a different outcome depending on the stew of innovative originals and non-cookie-cutter takes on covers that the band chooses to be appropriate for that particular set. Their realization that jazz, classic soul, bluegrass, classical, metal and progressive jam rock can all shake hands and play nice has guided them to create remarkable tunes from an ever-expanding palette. "Many of the bands I see have a unique style- it's a major motivation for wanting to see them. But Fresh Hops has a combination of styles that literally no one else I've seen possesses. I always say wildly individual bands like Rubblebucket and Snarky Puppy are unclassifiable, which is a testament to their innovative sound. While I consider Fresh Hops to be in the same vain as those bands, their sound is substantially more classifiable, but in the uber geeky, genre fusion sense. These guys are some sort of jam-funk / jazz-grass hybrid, capable of cooking up a barnstorm while remaining very flexible & versatile with their compositions. At times they can get very bluegrassy, like they did with "Coal Mines of Tupelo County." At other times they go to the other end of their spectrum, sounding very prog rockish, and almost orchestral with their strong combination of strings, keys, and horns like during "Aldez.""
